Swing Tucson!

Week of July 28th

Is it Tuesday already?  I guess this post is a little later than the others.  Anyways, we’ll be having our regular dance near the Koffler building on Wednesday (7/23) starting at 7:30pm.  Click here for a map. Actually, it’s starting to be more under Bio-Sciences East, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out.  There will be some different DJs this week since I won’t be able to make it.

And that’s it as far as I know.  Since it’s a slow week I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a trip to Phoenix in the works, so watch the forum.

Week of July 21st

First of all, thanks to all those that travelled all the way up to Flagstaff for a great time at Tom’s house this past weekend.  I’m sure the Flagstaff dancers appreciated the support of Tucson.

This week we have our regular dance near the Koffler building on Wednesday (7/23) starting at 7:30pm. Click here for a map. We dance even if there is a monsoon!

Saturday (7/26) brings us live music with the Kings of Pleasure performing at the Armory Park Senior Center.  Cost this month is $10.  Head on over to the Monthly Dances page for more details.

AZ Swing Jam Review

I just found some videos from the AZ Swing Jam workshop that happened the first weekend of March this year.  For those of you that went you might remember the instructors filming short summaries after each lesson ended.  This website has the entire collection of them. This is a pretty good review if you are having trouble remembering some of the moves that were taught.

There are also quite a number of classic clips listed including Hellzapoppin’, A Day at the Races, and Groovie Movie.  The Hellzapoppin’ clip is one of Frankie’s most famous.  If you can’t tell who he is I’ll give you a hint: he’s the one that gets kicked in the rear-end during the routine.  According to his biography Frankie says he was really hurting by the end of the day because they had to film the routine multiple times and he had told his partner to actually kick him so it would look convincing on film.

Week of July 14th

Happy Monday!
I just wanted to quickly remind everyone that there will once again be dancing at the U of A near the Koffler building this Wednesday (7/16) starting at 7:30pm.  Click here for a map.  We dance rain or shine!

The other chance to dance this week isn’t in Tucson, but Flagstaff.  We are having a mini-exchange of sorts including late-night dancing, some BBQ, and even a few workshops taught by some of our very own Tucsonans.  We are looking for some more drivers right now so if you are thinking about going and have a spot in your car please make a post on the forum so we can really make a good showing.

Speaking of the forum, I started a poll to get everyone’s input on when the Tucson Lindy Bomb should be held next year.  Just visit this link to vote.  It will probably ask for your login information, don’t be afraid to register if you don’t already have an account.

Finally, next month’s Tucson Stomps will be totally FREE!  Howard and Gayl are hosting Tucson Stomps as their wedding reception and everyone is welcome. There will be a potluck as part of the festivities so please bring along your favorite dish.  The time and place for the event remain the same, just visit the calendar for more information.

Tucson/Flagstaff Swing Shindig

Here are the details of the Flagstaff weekend for those that heard about it at Tucson Stomps last night.

“Flagstaff is having a weekend long DANCE PARTY!! (OK, it’s a mini-Exchange) Including a BBQ, Hiking and Balboa (and Swing) classes.
