Swing Cats Fall 2008!

Hey everybody, we finally got offical word from the Ina Gittings building that we are confirmed for the same time and place as last year. That’s Tuesday from 7-10pm in the basement of the Ina Gitting dance building on the U of A campus.
We’re still working out instruction and DJ schedules for the semester which we will post here in advance so everyone will know what the lesson is going to be. This Tuesday Howard and Gayl will be giving a beginning lindy lesson and dancing will follow DJ’d by yours truly.
The first two weeks will be free and open to everyone, after that we’ll be asking everyone to pay dues and become a member. More details on that to follow.
We’ve also got a couple of workshops in the works this Fall, and more outdoor dances on the Mall on a real dance floor. This is shaping up to be a really great year for Swing Cats so don’t miss out!
Week of August 18th
Aug 18, 2008 Armory Park, Lindy Mo's, Swing Cats
I hate to post over Nate, so don’t forget about the Lindybomb on the U of A Mall at 7pm on Wednesday. We’re actually going to have a real dance floor out there, so don’t miss it.
Saturday is Armory Park. The beginner East Coast dance lesson starts at 7pm followed by open dancing to the Kings of Pleasure from 8-11pm. Admission is $10. See the Monthly Dances page for other information.
Sunday brings us the second class in the progressive lindy lessons taught by Howard and Gayl. The lesson goes from 2-3pm with a dance following until 4:30pm. Lessons are located at the Arizona Ballroom Company studio which is on the south east corner of Grant and Craycroft.

Aug 14, 2008 Swing Cats
Hey all you swing fanatics, the unofficial gatherings on campus are getting redesigned this coming Wednesday, August 20th at 7pm. Swing dancing, outside, on campus, with great music, ON A REAL DANCE FLOOR! All we need now are some dancers (and maybe some volunteers). This is the first official event for Swing Cats in a while and hopefully it will kick us off for a great year of dancing. We’ll have a lesson at 7, probably basic East Coast and maybe even a little Lindy.
There is no better way to kick off the new semester than with some great swing dancing in the heart of campus. Whether you’re an old pro or a westie or haven’t danced a day in your life you are welcome to come on down. We’ll have Dan’s (make sure to thank him) dance floor set up in front of the stage on the mall so join us to have some fun and some great dances. I hope to see you there.

First off, congratulations to Howard and Gayl, who tied the knot this past Friday at Tucson Stomps! If anyone has pictures please let me know so I can get them posted here.
This week Swing Cats will meet in our usual summer location somewhere near the Koffler building around 7:30pm on Wednesday. Next week on August 20th we’ll be meeting on the Mall with a real dance floor. More news for that on the way, so keep checking back here.
A bit of housekeeping… Summer is coming to a close so I will be retiring the Summer Swing Cats e-mail list soon. I will post instructions for how to join the regular list sometime this week before the summer list is retired.

Howard and Gayl’s Wedding is this week for Tucson Stomps. Admission is free to everyone. The event starts at 7pm with a pot-luck, so bring along your favorite dish! See the calendar for more info. Also, be sure to let everyone know what you are bringing by posting on the event wall on facebook.
