Blues
Learn to Dance Blues with Ismael and Sophia

Blues dancing is a great way to meet new people, get some exercise, listen to great music and learn to be comfortable dancing anywhere there is blues or blues based music (almost everything we listen to today). This 5 week series of classes will give you what you need to get started whether you are comfortable dancing other forms like lindy and balboa or have never stepped foot on the dance floor.
Blues dancing is a fun, cool, sexy and creative form of dance that has really taken off around the country. Blues is very versatile and can be done to many tempos and kinds of music. Most of our popular music today has some roots in blues so you will find blues dancing will allow you to dance anywhere from our weekly swing dances to our local bars and anywhere around the world.
We know most people love blues dancing but may be nervous about doing it. We will give you the skills to be confident and to feel comfortable on the floor. Every class will have topics on etiquette and proper technique to make it fun and comfortable for everyone.
Class Outline
Week 1: You gots to feel it! There is no blues dancing without blues. In this introductory class you will listen to blues and learn the basics of movement, solo movement and connection with a partner, as well as the basic form of the dance.
Week 2: You do it like this. Blues is a very free dance that can take many forms but this week you will learn the basic steps, single and double time movement as well as the blues turn.
Week 3: Now you got it! Now that you know the basics we will focus on how to move comfortably in the form as well as tackle the double time turn and some lead-able pauses and improvisations.
Week 4: You just wiggle around a little bit. Blues is one of the most fun and creative forms of dance. Let’s use what you know and start making it your own. Learn to dance how you feel, even without moving your feet, or travel around the room quickly to get that open dance space before anyone else does. Integrate any of your other swing dance skills into blues.
Week 5: Bring it home now! The basics are set, you know how to move, and the dance is starting to be more an expression of you than a set of steps. Now it’s time to learn some tricks, and how to get “that look” to your blues.
